Samaritan Center of Puget Sound
Samaritan Center of Puget Sound is located in the Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle and provides counseling, education, consultation, mediation and other services for individuals, families, congregations and organizations. Samaritan Center’s RainWise installation includes seven cisterns, managing rainwater runoff from a total of over 7,700 square feet of roof area. The project
- generates substantial water storage for summer landscape irrigation,
- creates a sense of community ownership towards a solution to pollution issues,
- provides detention and infiltration of the existing roof area,
- protects Puget Sound from combined sewer system overflows.
The project was completed in March 2018, with a total of $29,460 covered by the RainWise rebate program.
Four 1,320 gallon cisterns capture 5,920 ft2 of roof area while the three “Slimline” cisterns capture 1,762 ft2of roof area.
Samaritan Center of Puget Sound‘s newly installed cisterns will capture runoff from 100% of their roof area, effectively keeping 30,159 gallonsof stormwater out of the combined sewer system each year. Samaritan Center urges other businesses, neighbors, churches and community organizations in eligible basins to take advantage of this program.
Project partners include counseling center leadership, King County staff, RainWise outreach staff and the creative design talents of the RainWisecontractor, Rain Dog Designs. All stakeholders worked together to keep thousands of gallons of rainwater out of the sewer system each year.
