Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden
"At Hillside Church in Kent, World Relief Seattle and several other organizations partnered to empower immigrants, refugees and the local community to create the Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden. "
World Relief Seattle and the Hillside Church is building on its previous award-winning project, which installed the first GSI demonstration in Kent, with large cisterns that reduce runoff and flooding, and provide rainwater for a large community garden for refugees and immigrants. This year, they worked with partners and volunteers to install a 2,200 square foot “Reclaiming Home” rain garden, which local students helped design. An additional four rain gardens of 200 square feet each were also created to further provide stormwater runoff treatment. Community engagement has been increased through workshops, garden tours, volunteer events, refugee student internships, youth education, and a rain-activated water feature.
